Mantrailing is a scent based activity where dogs use their natural ability to follow human scent trails. Unlike traditional tracking, mantrailing focuses on finding a specific person by following the unique scent they leave behind as they move through an environment.
During a mantrailing session, a dog is given a scent article such as a glove or item of clothing from the person they are tasked to find. The dog then works independently using its nose to follow the trail across a variety of terrains including urban areas, parks, and countryside paths. Handlers learn to read their dog’s body language and trust their decisions, creating a strong partnership built on communication and confidence.
Mantrailing is suitable for dogs of all breeds, ages, and abilities. It provides excellent mental stimulation, builds confidence, and offers a rewarding way for dogs and their owners to work together. It taps into a dog’s natural instincts in a fun, enriching, and engaging way.
Sessions are led by a qualified Mantrailing Global instructor, ensuring safe, structured, and supportive training for both dogs and their handlers.
A 3-hour introduction workshop costs £55 with progression sessions costing £30
Alongside our daytime classes at Golden Paws Dog Training, Katy also runs BlackDogTan Training School, offering evening training for owners who prefer to train outside of the working day.
BlackDogTan holds group classes on Tuesday evenings at Nettlestead Village Hall, following the same positive, reward-based approach. These sessions focus on building strong foundations, improving everyday skills and supporting dogs at all stages of training.
